The Star sent a reporter to cover the shooting

When Cephus Johnson watched the video showing a young man shot dead by police on public transit, it reopened a wound that had never fully healed.

“It reminded me of what happened down here,” said Johnson, his voice shaking. “It was horrifying and tragic, to see him get shot the way he got shot, when I thought they could have resolved that situation differently.”

The final day of Grant’s life, culminating in his shocking shooting on a train station platform, is the subject of Fruitvale Station, a new critically acclaimed film directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer.

“I don’t know why the officer started shooting. That don’t make no kind of sense,” he said. “Again,Find the perfect leather or synthetic best cell phone cases for your phone. it’s a pure lack of respect for life.”

Johnson hopes to reach out to the Yatim family, to offer support as they endure the painful process of Const.Extend the power on your iphone 5 back cover with the mophie juice pack. James Forcillo’s trial for second-degree murder.

“We shared the same tragic experience. Whatever we could share with them to help them get through the process, whatever questions they may have, we’re available,” he said.

A Yatim family friend promised to pass on Johnson’s contact information. The family recently cancelled a press conference, saying they were still grieving too deeply to speak.

Grant was heading home at around 2 a.Our handcrafted Cases for iPad 4 is inspired by the journals of our favorite artists.m. on New Year’s Day 2009 on a BART train after watching the fireworks in San Francisco. After Grant and four friends were involved in a fight on the train, BART officers detained the men on the Fruitvale Station platform.

As witness videos leaked online and to television stations, Oakland erupted in riots and protest. The cases for ipad mini is the latest exquisite release from Apple and as usual,The Star sent a reporter to cover the shooting, as it inflamed racial tensions and long-standing anger towards the police.

Under cross-examination, Mehserle acknowledged he didn’t tell anyone the night of the shooting that it had been an accident, the Los Angeles Times reported. At that time, he told officers he thought Grant had a gun.

Handguns are twice as heavy as Tasers and worn on a different side of the body. Mehserle had been taught to deploy his Taser with his left hand, but used both hands to fire his gun, court documents show.

The shooting did prompt sweeping changes at BART, beginning with the police chief stepping down and the firing of two other officers involved. The Cases for HTC One to keep your aluminium clad device free of scratches. After an external audit, officers must now complete extra hours of Taser training and wear body cameras to record their interactions with civilians.

“We are a very, very different organization than we were the night Oscar Grant was shot,” said spokesperson Luna Salavar. “The tragedy that happened that night certainly rocked the whole BART family to our core.”

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair suspended Forcillo with pay even before the Special Investigations Unit charged him with second-degree murder. Blair has announced an internal review of the shooting and broader use-of-force policies.

Meanwhile, Ontario ombudsman André Marin has launched an external investigation into police de-escalation practices across the province.

Johnson was encouraged to hear the Yatim shooting has sparked discussions and protests, and he is hopeful it will lead to change. He added the community’s support will help the family during the trial.

“We as a family know that it was the community that stood with us, that cried with us, that went back and forth to court with us,” he said.

“Most importantly, there is a family here in California that has embraced them and is willing to support them and help them any way we can.”

The Sarangbang brought together artists

The book is meant as a touchstone to point Korea in the right direction towards its true long-term potential on the global stage. Much of the focus falls on the various hidden treasures in Korean culture itself. Pastreich uses a powerful parable taken from the Lotus Sutra to describe Korea’s relationship with its own culture.

The parable goes like this. A man meets an old friend and they talk until late in the evening. Before dawn, the friend leaves while the man is still asleep. The friend takes a priceless gem and sews it into the lining of the man’s jacket as a special gift to help him, and then he leaves before the man awakes. When the man wakes up he continues on his travels, unaware of the jewel sewn into his clothes. He suffers painful experiences, being subjected to hunger, disease, and terrible poverty. After many years, he meets up again with his friend who tells him that he had had a priceless jewel in his clothes all that time, but had been unaware of it.The Cases for HTC One to keep your aluminium clad device free of scratches. The point of the parable is that often the most valuable things in our lives we have right with us, but we are completely unaware of their presence. In the case of Korea, there is a profound lack of awareness of the richness of Korean culture itself.

Pastreich shows a profound affection for Korea and its culture, listing many aspects of traditional Korean culture, from Buddhist meditation to traditional urban planning and the concept of propriety, or “Ye,” ideas which have been cast aside in the rush to become modern. His message is eminently clear: “See the gem you hold inside yourself and establish your own identity.”

In his view, Korea is a curious paradox. Koreans lament that their country is not yet an “advanced country” when it has many services and attributes which put it on a par with, or ahead of, other industrialized nations. As Koreans wring their hands over their lack of modernity, they overlook their own strengths. Pastreich writes, “There are priceless gems all around the country just waiting to be discovered,The cases for ipad mini is the latest exquisite release from Apple and as usual, but Koreans have made few efforts to dig them up or to display them.”

One of the causes of this Korea discount is an underestimation of Korea’s importance by Koreans themselves. Pastreich refers to this way of thinking as the “shrimp complex.” There is a Korean proverb frequently invoked by Koreans to describe their country’s geopolitical status: “A shrimp gets its back broken when whales fight.” The point being that Korea is a little country squeezed between great powers like the United States, China, and Japan, and must be extremely careful because of its own fragility.

But today Korea has a remarkable range of technologies and access to considerable finance, Pastreich argues. It must move beyond this defensive posture. He notes, “If Korea wants to play a leading role in the international community, it can, but the first step is to move beyond that shrimp complex. How? By affirming its long-term cultural identity and finding inspiration for its moves forward as a global leader in its own thousands of years of history.” His opinion that “tradition is the key to the future” has been articulated before, but his specific proposals are quite thought-provoking.

Pastreich suggests that we can find hints as to Korea’s possible future in its past. With some brilliant insights and creative convergence, he believes that we can brush the dust off of Korea’s glorious past and reinvigorate it, creating a new global culture. For example, Pastreich speaks about the traditional “Sarangbang,” the drawing room in the traditional Korean home wherein members of the community gathered for entertainment, artistic expression, and also serious discussions about current issues. The Sarangbang brought together artists, bureaucrats, farmers, and other scholars into a single creative space for a free and open dialog. That traditional cultural space provided a positive stimulus for citizens, helping them create new ideas.

Pastreich touches on many other aspects of traditional Korea, including the concept of “Hongikingan,” the idea of extending benefits to all humans, a powerful universalist and idealist concept in Korea that goes beyond the narrow definition of interest groups and nation states. This concept could have tremendous impact in the current age, he suggests. Also, Pastreich suggests that traditional geomancy can return to its roots in ecology, not fortunetelling, and play a powerful role in urban planning. He speaks of the tremendous potential in traditional organic farming techniques and those aspects of traditional Korean art and literature that could have global appeal.

Pastreich devotes a full chapter of his book to the concept of the “Seonbi,Our handcrafted Cases for iPad 4 is inspired by the journals of our favorite artists.” the committed scholar in traditional Korea. He notes that Korea had a remarkable tradition of learned scholars who maintained noble ideas and were deeply committed to society and to the nation. That Confucian tradition offers much for the modern age which suffers such alienation and in which so few can find a calling that makes good use of their skills.Extend the power on your iphone 5 back cover with the mophie juice pack. A “Seonbi Spirit” refers to the iron will to sacrifice even one’s life for a greater cause on the part of intellectuals and to hold to human dignity in all cases. That tradition of the Seonbi is exactly what our age demands, and is an opportunity for Korea to develop a global national image, just as Japan developed the samurai and the ninja as elements of global culture linked to its own traditions.

The priceless gems in Korean culture that Pastreich identified are the essence of true power. Pastreich goes as far as to claim that if Korea recognizes its inherent strengths, it can establish a powerful tradition of soft power. “If Korea can make good use of its soft power,Find the perfect leather or synthetic best cell phone cases for your phone. Korea could end up at the center of a cultural renaissance in this century,” he explains, “Korea is the first country that joined the ranks of advanced economies that has not inherited the imperialist legacy of colonialism and which has emerged from poverty in the shortest span of time. Its valuable experience is inspiring for developing nations worldwide. But this state is not something for Koreans to take pride in. It should be a source of responsibility and duty. Korea must lead the world in a positive direction.”

They receive public money to help build stadiums

This week fans will dress head-to-toe in team colors and try out new tailgate recipes in parking lots before filing into 16 NFL stadiums to cheer on their team -- which,Extend the power on your iphone 5 back cover with the mophie juice pack. thanks the league's parity, will likely still be in the playoff hunt come December.

But a game-day ritual of the digital age -- tracking scores, highlights and social-media chatter on a mobile device -- isn't possible inside many NFL venues because the crush of fans with smartphones can overload cellular networks.

The improved home-viewing experience -- high-def TV, watching multiple games at once, real-time fantasy-football updates and interaction via social media -- has left some NFL stadiums scrambling to catch up. It's one of the reasons why, before rebounding last year, the NFL lost attendance between 2008 and 2011, forcing the league to alter television-blackout rules.

In May 2012, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced an initiative to outfit all 31 NFL stadiums with Wi-Fi. But with the start of the 2013 regular season just days away, less than half of the NFL's venues are Wi-Fi enabled and no stadiums have launched new Wi-Fi systems this year.

Part of the reason for the delay is some stadium operators are waiting for the next generation of increased Wi-Fi speed before installing networks, said Paul Kapustka, editor in chief for Mobile Sports Report.

Another reason, Kapustka said, is that the cost of installing Wi-Fi will come out of the pockets of venue owners and operators who have traditionally not needed to invest in such costly projects. Instead, they receive public money to help build stadiums and television money for the right to broadcast games.

Brian Lafemina, the NFL's vice president of club business development, said the league is still searching for a telecommunications partner that can help tackle challenges of stadium location, design and tens of thousands of fans all trying to access the network at the same time.

"Yes, we are working on it as hard as we can," he said. "But the technology just isn't where it needs to be to deliver what we want to deliver."

The league is unveiling a variety of technological enhancements at stadiums in 2013, including cameras in locker rooms, massive video boards that will show replays of every play, a "fantasy football lounge" with sleek technological amenities, the ability to listen to audio of other games from inside the stadium, team specific fantasy games and free access to the league's NFL Red Zone cable channel for season ticket holders. Our handcrafted Cases for iPad 4 is inspired by the journals of our favorite artists.

Jonathan Kraft, president of the New England Patriots and co-chair of the NFL's digital media committee, you need to perform we have every best replacement parts for iphone 5 at competitive prices. told CNN Money in January that he hopes to have all stadiums equipped with Wi-Fi for the start of the 2015 season.

The Patriots helped lead the way last year by offering fans free Wi-Fi throughout Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The network was built by New Hampshire-based Enterasys Networks.

Eleven other stadiums currently have Wi-Fi capability: MetLife Stadium in northern New Jersey, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans,The cases for ipad mini is the latest exquisite release from Apple and as usual, Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, Sun Life Stadium in Miami, AT&T Stadium in suburban Dallas, University of Phoenix Stadium in suburban Phoenix, Ford Field in Detroit and Soldier Field in Chicago.

Mobile Sports Report published its inaugural State of the Stadium Technology Survey this year, based on responses from more than 50 NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, university, pro soccer, pro golf and car racing sites. The survey concluded DAS is currently more popular at venues because it boosts connectivity to mobile devices while dividing costs between carriers and the facility.

Cleveland Browns fans will benefit from a new DAS tower, installed by Verizon, and an upgraded AT&T tower this year at FirstEnergy Stadium, Browns President Alec Scheiner said the improved technology will serve as a test case for whether to install Wi-Fi in the future.

"If you are a consumer or a fan, you really just care about being able to get on your mobile device, and that's what we're trying to tackle," he said during a July press conference.

Kapustka said DAS is a quick fix and is not a long-term strategy, especially when it comes to fans watching TV replays on their mobile devices.

"The video angle is the big thing for Wi-Fi," he said. "Cellular just simply won't be able to handle the bandwidth."

By contrast, Major League Baseball named wireless-tech company Qualcomm its official technology partner in April, launching a two-year study to solve mobile-connectivity issues in its 30 stadiums. Kapustka said MLB was in a position to strike the overarching deal with Qualcomm because team owners made the league responsible for digital properties during the 1990s.The Cases for HTC One to keep your aluminium clad device free of scratches.

The NFL has a variety of rights deals, including Direct TV and Verizon, which make it more difficult for the league to agree on a single Wi-Fi plan, he said.

The growth of expert networks across Asia

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has charged over three dozen people and firms as part of a broad investigation into ties between investors and expert networks that has uncovered insider trading and helped trigger the high-profile fall of Raj Rajaratnamrun’s Galleon hedge fund.

Those cases have bruised confidence in expert networks in the United States, and some clients have stopped using the service for fear of falling foul of regulators. The cases for ipad mini is the latest exquisite release from Apple and as usual, But in Asia, where regulators have yet to pay the industry much attention, the service is thriving – fertile ground where emerging market investors are willing to pay for inside knowledge on company supply chains, key personnel moves or regulatory shifts.

“The fastest sales process has been in Asia,” said David Legg, managing director of Asia and Europe for Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG),Extend the power on your iphone 5 back cover with the mophie juice pack. the biggest player in the industry. GLG says it has tripled its Asia revenue in the past three years. Several local firms have also entered the market.

Legg says a relative lack of transparency in Asian markets means investors are much less willing to rely solely on research from investment banks and brokerages. “In London and New York, you get a lot of people who say: ‘Look, I can rely on some banking analyst on the sell-side to help me figure out something’; In Asia, nobody believes that”.Our handcrafted Cases for iPad 4 is inspired by the journals of our favorite artists.

The growth of expert networks across Asia equips the region’s struggling hedge fund industry with a key information service, while presenting regulators and companies with a new challenge – how to police this paid-for exchange of information.

According to people interviewed by NEWS.you need to perform we have every best replacement parts for iphone 5 at competitive prices.GNOM.ES, few companies in Asia are aware that their employees may be speaking to investors through a middle-man, and being paid for it.

Capvision, the biggest expert network group in China, said it has tripled in size over the past 3-4 years and now employs close to 200 people. It says it can connect clients with more than 60,000 “knowledge consultants” across all major industries.

“We have been fortunate enough to be in one of the fastest growing markets in the world and were able to capitalize on the fact that information flow in China has always been fairly un-transparent,” said Kai Hong, a former Bain & Co consultant who co-founded the business in 2006.

Expert networks are similar to dating agencies that match couples based on their compatibility criteria. They build a database of company executives, policy experts and academics, whose services are offered to investors interested in tapping this expertise. They make money by taking a slice of the fee the clients pay for talking to the expert.

Expert networks and hedge funds that spoke to said experts are paid anywhere from $300 to more than $3,000 an hour, depending on their area of expertise.

The networks don’t say how much revenue they are generating. GLG said it has around 400 institutional investor clients across Asia, as well as clients at strategy consultancies, hedge funds, banks,The Cases for HTC One to keep your aluminium clad device free of scratches. companies and private equity firms.

The primary research industry, which is mainly expert networks but also includes some market research firms, was worth $466 million last year, according to Integrity Research, which monitors the independent research industry. The networks don’t offer any regional revenue breakdown, though GLG’s Legg said investors tend to spend more on their services per dollar invested in the region compared to the United States.

The charges carry a potential life sentence

Bail was set at $3 million Tuesday for a 16-year-old boy who is charged with killing a World War II veteran and contends the man was beaten to death because he shorted the teen and another boy on a sale of crack cocaine.

The allegation was sharply refuted by friends of Delbert Belton, the 88-year-old veteran known as "Shorty."

"Shorty never did no drugs," said Ted Denison, a friend who added that the defendants were "smearing his name."

The drug-dealing claim is in a letter police found after they arrested Kenan Adams-Kinard early Monday morning,Our handcrafted best cases for iPad 4 is inspired by the journals of our favorite artists. Spokane County Deputy Prosecutor Larry Haskell said during Tuesday's court hearing.

Haskell said the letter contends that Adams-Kinard and Demetrius L. Glenn, 16, were buying crack cocaine from Belton when the attack occurred Aug. 21. That notion was scoffed at by family members and friends of Belton, who was known as Shorty because he was little more than 5 feet tall.

Haskell did not return several telephone calls seeking additional information on the drug-dealing claim.

Both teens are charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. The best cases for ipad mini is the latest exquisite release from Apple and as usual, The charges carry a potential life sentence.

Police said Belton, who was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa, was beaten in his vehicle as he waited for a friend in the parking lot of an Eagles Lodge in north Spokane. Officers found Belton with serious head injuries,The best cases for HTC one to keep your aluminium clad device free of scratches. and his wallet had been taken. He died in the hospital Thursday.

The teens will be tried as adults, and Spokane County District Judge Debra Hayes on Tuesday ordered Adams-Kinard moved from a juvenile jail to the Spokane County Jail.

A lower bail of $2 million had been set for Glenn on Monday, but Hayes said Adams-Kinard is more of a flight risk if he's released. The judge noted that Glenn turned himself in Thursday night, while Adams-Kinard hid out for days before he was arrested.

The Associated Press does not generally identify minors accused of a crime but is naming the teens because of the severity of the charges.

Court records show that in 2011, Glenn and people he was with surrounded and confronted another teenager in a park because they saw a black bandana on the ground, which they took as an act of disrespect. Glenn was convicted of assault, riot and obstruction after attacking the person with a stick or bat studded with nails. He was placed on probation and later agreed to pay restitution.

Earlier this year, Glenn had two run-ins with law enforcement. On Feb. 9, he was charged with malicious mischief after damaging a garage door, and on March 18, he was arrested and charged with driving without a license.

Adams-Kinard was also arrested earlier this year after snatching a cellphone from a girl on a city bus. The girl suffered scratches on her hand, and Adams-Kinard pleaded guilty to theft and assault.
